Motivation? It doesn't exist!

Before you disagree let me explain why I'm right. And when you realise that you agree, you'll know that getting shit done, achieving your life ambitions and living your life your way is totally in your control.


So here goes...


I'll start with the definition of what 'motivation' is:


"The reason to act or accomplish something"

Not so controversial right?


'Motivation' can't happen without a reason. So what's your reason?


If you've seen my free learning module explaining why you are the way you are (it's here, and it's free!) you'll have realised that reason comes from your beliefs and values. Without these 'motivation' can't exist. Your values and beliefs are at the core of who you are and whenever you want to do something that isn't aligned to them, you'll struggle with 'motivation'.


Here's why...


Your values are the things that are important to you. These are things that define how you spend your time and how you behave. They may be things like honesty, effort, perseverance and loyalty and they tend to develop early in life. And your beliefs form around your values.


Your beliefs are things you believe absolutely to be true. Even if they really aren't. And your beliefs can be empowering or limiting.


Your empowering belief could be "I can accomplish anything when I put my mind to it!". This is something that is focused on positive things. They empower you to be amazing.


If you're trying to accomplish something that's aligned to your core values and your empowering beliefs, it will happen. Even if you tried to sabotage your own work you'll find that you naturally moving towards accomplishing it - who you are automatically drives you towards it!


Now let's consider a limiting belief. This is something that holds you back. It's a negative framing of your own self.


Your limiting belief could be "People like me can't..." or "I'm not the type of person who can..."


The incredible thing about limiting beliefs is that they're a perfect example of you holding yourself back - without doing it on purpose.


So if you set yourself a goal - maybe you want to run a successful business. If you've defined your goal and it's perfectly aligned to your values and empowering beliefs, it's going to happen. 'Motivation' just happens!


And if you set yourself the same goal, but it's not aligned to your values, or you have powerful limiting beliefs you will struggle to feel 'motivated'.


So you see, motivation isn't anything. It's simply a case of you being clear with yourself about what you want (your goals) and defining it in such a way that it's aligned to who you are and what you want in life.


Okay, so what now?


That's easy!
